30th Annual Beaverloch Farms Tournament hits the ice

The parking lot of the Frank Doherty Arena was filled to the brim, as hockey teams from all over Ontario descended on Thorold

On Friday morning, the 30th annual Beaverloch Farms Tournament kicked off at the Frank Doherty Arena in downtown Thorold.

The annual hockey competition, put on by the Thorold Amateur Athletics Association (TAAA), brings minor hockey teams from all over Ontario to Thorold.

The owners of Beaverloch Farms, Doug and Don Smith, have sponsored the competition for the last 30 years. On Friday, they were present to drop the ceremonial puck.

“They needed a sponsor way back when and so it started,” Doug told ThoroldToday. “Don’s two grandsons are playing now so it continues on.”

The competition takes place all weekend long at the Frank Doherty Arena and the Canada Games Park. For the game schedule and scores, visit the tournament’s website.
