The Thorold Anchors scored a thrilling come-from-behind victory at home last night against the St. Catharines Cobras in senior men's baseball.
The Anchors started the game with a solid effort, scoring a run in each of the first four innings. But a big four-run inning by the Cobras in the third inning and another two in the top of the fifth had put them into a 7-4 lead.
Thorold rallied in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to give them a 9-4 lead with two innings remaining.
The Anchors added another in the sixth inning and that became the winner as the Cobras refused to quit scoring two more in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on third.
Relief pitcher Jared McInnis scored a save as he finally silenced the Cobra bats when Brad Baters flew out to centre to end the last inning rally by the Cobras.
Dan Boekestyn led the Anchors with three RBIs going 2-for-4 at the plate. Nick Schwab also went 2-for-4. Russ McKeown had two hits, two walks and two runs scored for the Anchors.
Justin Vescio-West pitched six innings for the Cobras, allowing seven runs on seven hits and five walks. He picked up the win for the Anchors.
The Anchors earned their first win to stay ahead to the winless Cobras.
