The defending champions are rolling.
After a slow start to start the season, the Welland Jackfish has won six straight games following Thursday’s 9-6 home victory over Hamilton.
Steven Moretto hit a two-run blast for Welland (9-3), which sits atop the IBL standings. Robert Mullen added a solo shot. Jake Sanford drove in two runs on a pair of hits, Ethan Hunt added two RBI, Tyler Dupuis and Tyson Gomm each drove in a run, and Dawson Tweet went 3-for-3 and scored twice.
Enrique Saldana (2-0) went 5.1 innings for the win. He allowed four runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Deivy Mendez worked around two ninth inning hits to earn his third save.
Brandon Nicholson drove in three runs for the Cardinals (6-5). Connor Hicks had two RBI on a pair of singles, Cole Iantomasi drove in a run, Zach Marriott went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Josh Niles singled three times and stole a base.
Takaki Eguchi (3-1) allowed six runs on six hits over three innings in a losing effort. He scattered five hits, walked two and struck out one.
