WELLAND – After its 12-game win streak was snapped on Canada Day, the Welland Jackfish didn’t waste time turning things around.

The IBL’s first-place team responded with a 10-3 home win over Brantford on Thursday.

Steven Moretto went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Jackfish (16-4). Jake Sanford doubled twice as part of a three-hit game and drove in two.

Gianfranco Morello had two RBI, Matteo Porcellato and Tyler Dupuis each drove in a run, and Jonah Weisner and Ethan Hunt collected two hits apiece and combined to score three times.

Welland righty Brandon Underhill (3-1) fanned eight over six scoreless innings to earn the win. He scattered four hits and walked one.

Vaibhav Desai accounted for Brantford’s offence with a bases-clearing double in the seventh. Nick Burdett and Stephen Whalen each had two hits and scored once.

Ricardo Alvarez DeLugo (0-3) took the loss on the mound. He was charged with seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with a strikeout over five innings as the Red Sox dropped to 8-13.
