Jackfish hit 30 wins, clinch IBL's top playoff seed

Jackfish reaches 30 wins
GUELPH – Welland became the first team to 30 wins this season after a 7-5 Tuesday night victory in Guelph.

Jonah Weisner doubled and added a solo home run for the Jackfish (30-10), who already clinched the league’s top playoff seed. Jake Sanford went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs. Steven Moretto drove in two, and Gianfranco Morello and Dawson Tweet had an RBI apiece.

Brandon Underhill (7-1) went 5.1 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Deivy Mendez tossed a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.

Conner Morro led the Royals with his first home run of the season and three RBI. Ashton Patterson drove in a run on two hits, while Evan Ashe picked up an RBI.
Ethan Hammond and Frankin Torres added two hits apiece.

Guelph dropped to 22-16.

Majors get back into win column
HAMILTON – After a pair of losses, the London Majors got back into the win column with a 5-4 win Tuesday night in Hamilton.

Kaiden Cardoso went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for London (23-15), which sits third in the IBL. Champ Garner singled and homered with the bases empty, and Brad Verhoeven added an RBI.

Braeden Ferrington (3-1) went five innings to secure the win. The Majors’ righty allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Tyler Gillies fanned nine in a four-inning save. He scattered three hits and allowed a run.

Keelor Loveridge went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the sixth-place Cardinals (18-22). Luis Bernardo and Dennis Dei Baning drove in the other runs. Josh Niles and Rikelbin DeCastro had two hits apiece.

Callum Blue (0-1) was touched for two runs on two hits and a walk in a half-inning of relief. Rich Corrente started and went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

Laukkanen deals in Red Sox win
KITCHENER – Josh Laukkanen struck out 12 in Brantford’s 3-2 win in Kitchener on Tuesday night.

Laukkanen allowed two runs on 10 hits and two walks. He pushed Brantford (11-28-0) within two games of the Panthers for the eighth and final playoff spot with three games remaining.

At the plate, Gus Wilson homered and added a double. Nick Burdett drove in the other run, while Marcos Castillo singled and doubled.

For Kitchener (13-26), Raul Gonzalez went 3-for-3 and finished a triple short of the cycle. He drove in two, while AJ Karosas singled twice.
Yadian Martinez (1-6) took the loss, giving up one run on four hits over five innings of relief. He walked two and struck out eight. Jake Ray started and went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits with a walk and two punchouts.
