Jackfish sweep home-and-home set against Guelph Royals

Welland beats visitors 7-3 Sunday afternoon at home

WELLAND – Welland swept its weekend home-and-home with Guelph, beating the Royals 7-3 Sunday afternoon at home.
Greyson Barrett drove in three on two hits for the Jackfish (11-3), which has won eight straight. Brandon Hupe doubled and drove in two and added a steal, Tyler Dupuis and Ethan Hunt had an RBI apiece, and Robert Mullen singled twice and scored twice.
Ben Abram (4-0) struck out 10 over seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks.
For Guelph (6-4), J.D. Williams doubled twice and drove in two runs. Ryosuke Ohashi had a pair of hits, an RBI and his second stolen base.
Royals’ starter Hector Yan (2-1) pitched into the sixth inning, allowing four runs on six hits. He walked five and struck out four.

Chatham-Kent wins second straight

CHATHAM – Chatham-Kent’s bats came alive for a 13-3 win Sunday afternoon over Kitchener at Fergie Jenkins Field, its second straight victory.
Robert Mackie and Braxton Haggith each drove in three runs for the Barnstormers (5-8). They also combined for five hits and four runs. Torrin Vaselenak homered and drove in two, Spencer Marcus had two RBI on two hits, Seth Strong singled twice and drove in a run and Lee Kucera added an RBI.
Chatham starting pitcher Cam O’Reilly (1-1) went six innings for the win. He allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Catalin Morin picked up the three-inning save, yielding a run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
For Kitchener (3-10), Raul Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI, and Spenser Ross added a two-run single. Leadoff hitter Jett Jarvis stole four bases.
Dakota Parsons (0-4) was charged with the loss on the mound after giving up five runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. He walked five and fanned four.

Castro dominates in Leafs’ win

TORONTO – Angel Castro struck out eight over six one-hit innings to lead Toronto to an 11-5 win Sunday at Christie Pits.
Offensively, Johnathan Solazzo hit one of three Leafs’ home runs and drove in three. Justin Marra had a solo home run and Connor Lewis added a two-run blast. Jordan Castaldo drove in two, Dan Marra had an RBI, and Jesse Hodges and Lachlan Maude each had a pair of hits.
Toronto improved to 6-9.
Nick Burdett had a solo home run for Brantford (4-9). Gus Wilson and Graham Tebbit each drove in a run.
Ricardo Alvarez DeLugo (0-1) was pulled with two outs in the third inning after allowing seven runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout.

 

Cardinals deal Majors 6-3 loss

LONDON – Cole Iantomasi homered and drove in two in Hamilton’s 6-3 win Sunday in London.
Luis Bernardo singled, doubled and drove in three, and Tyler Duncan went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Takaki Eguchi (4-1) earned the win on the mound despite giving up three runs on four hits in two innings of relief. He struck out two. Jacob Gajic went two scoreless innings for his first save of the season. Cards’ starter Corben Peters fanned six over four two-hit innings.
Hamilton moved back to .500 at 7-7.
Byron Reichstein hit a two-run home run for London (8-4). Kaiden Cardoso went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Tristan Osika singled twice.
Majors’ starter Jose Arias (2-3) gave up seven runs on eight hits in seven innings. He walked one and fanned five.
