Jackfish take advantage of quick start to defeat Barnstormers

Three runs in the first inning is all the Welland Jackfish needed to defeat the Chatham Kent Barnstormers 3-2 Thursday at home during Intercounty Baseball League action.

The Jackfish took advantage of four hits and two Barnstormers errors during the three-run rally.

Robert Mullen had a run batted in for the Jackfish. Mitsuki Fukuda had two hits for the visiting Barnstormers.

Ben Abram was fantastic on the mound for the Jackfish. In seven innings of work, he gave up five hits to earn his eighth win of the year. Eric Pettipiece took the loss.

The victory gets the Jackfish on track with its 22-7 record. They are on the road Friday against the Brantford Red Sox at 8 p.m. The Barnstormers, now 14-17 are on the road Saturday against the Guelph Royals at 7:30 p.m.

Baycats take a bite out of Royals

Nolan Machibroda hit a double and had two runs batted in to lead the Barrie Baycats over the Guelph Royals 6-3 Thursday in Intercounty Baseball League action.

Machibroda’s double to score a pair was the catalyst in a three-run third inning.

Keon Moseni hit a homerun for the Royals.

Frank Garces had a huge outing on the mound for the Baycats. He struck out 10 batters, only allowing three hits in seven innings of work to get the win. Yuki Narita took the loss despite recording five strikeouts.

Now 20-9, the Baycats hit the road Friday against the Hamilton Cardinals at 7:35 p.m. The Royals drop to 16-11 and host the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Cardinals double up Panthers

A big seventh inning leads the Hamilton Cardinals to a 10-5 win over the Kitchener Panthers Thursday during Intercounty Baseball League action.

Josh Niles’ three-run homerun capped the big seven-run inning. Tyler Duncan added a solo homer for the Cardinals.
Nick Parsons hit a solo homerun for the Panthers.

Mizuki Akatsuka struck out eight and only walked one to get the win for the Cardinals. Pedro De Los Santos was tagged with the loss.

The Hamilton Cardinals improve to 13-18 and host the Barrie Baycats Friday at 7:35 p.m. The Panthers drop to 10-19 and hit the road against the Baycats Saturday at 4:05 p.m.
