HAMILTON — Defensive linemen Justin Capicciotti and Nikita Whitlock and running back Alex Green were among 14 players released Monday by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Receivers Cameron Echols-Luper and Keyarris Garrett, defensive backs John Green, Robert Porter and Jarrod Harper, defensive linemen Jamal Marcus and Tobenna Okeke, running backs Rajion Neal and Darius Victor and linebacker Terrence Plummer, all Americans, were also released. So too was Canadian linebacker Dillon Grondin.
The Ticats also announced American defensive lineman Bobby Richardson has retired.
The six-foot-three, 235-pound Capicciotti, spent parts of the last three seasons with Hamilton. The 29-year-old Toronto native was originally a 2012 second-round pick of the Edmonton Eskimos — No. 14 overall — and also played for the Ottawa Redblacks and Saskatchewan Roughriders before being dealt to the Ticats on Oct. 10, 2016.
The five-foot-10, 250-pound Whitlock played two seasons in Hamilton, seeing action on offence as a fullback as well as on defence and special teams. The Ticats signed the versatile American to a two-year contract extension in February.
Green, also an American, ran for 604 yards on 114 carries (5.3-yard average) last season with seven TDs. Over two seasons with Hamilton, the six-foot, 228-pound Green had 1,051 yards rushing on 193 carries (5.4-yard average) with 12 TDs while adding 25 catches for 252 yards and a touchdown.
