With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Al on Monday, January 27th, 2025 in his 81st year just six weeks after the passing of his cherished wife Evelyn Beckman (nee Johnston) on December 14, 2024. Al and Evelyn were high school sweet hearts and married in 1965. Their love story spanned 59 years, a testament to their devotion to one another and marked by a shared passion for their family. Al was a devoted Dad to David (predeceased), Michael (Cheri) and Tammy (John). A proud Papa and biggest cheerleader to Jesy, Kyler, Ethan, Makenna and Hudson. Predeceased by his loving parents, Fred and Philipine (nee Kneller). A cherished brother of Joan (Matt) Krey and Herb (Suzie) Beckman and an amazing friend, teammate and neighbour to so many others.
Al retired from General Motors after 46 years of service in 2005. His many years of hard work were dedicated to providing for his family and enjoying life. Winters were spent up north snowmobiling with family and friends or travelling to Florida or Dominican and later transitioned to enjoying summers at Newton’s, one of his happiest places, where he and Evelyn created memories for over 40 years while forging lifelong friendships. Sports were Al's passion, whether it be basketball, hockey or baseball he could always be found cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He excelled at fastpitch softball, taking Team Canada to the World Championships in 1980. Over the years, Al and Evelyn made countless friendships through sports and stayed connected with their MACS alumni friends for over 50 years. Each relationship brought joy to Al's life. His dedication and hard work gave his family a life full of adventures, love, laughter and unforgettable memories.
In honouring Al’s wishes, cremation has taken place and family will be having a small private gathering at a later date as per Al's wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association. https://donate.mytributegift.org/?cid=692fb06ae640352380cb2752d7228fabef7b0d5d0f870ead6c02e208caf7e200&fh=FRP-308918&fp=3089186b5c6c0632d102cc0b9fbb841d8e
