Peacefully, on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Linhaven at age 81. Silvana leaves behind the love of her life and soulmate, her husband of 61 years, Umberto. Beloved mother of Lisa (Darryl) and their children Ryan and Nathan Selman, Dino (Cristina) and their children Nico and Marco, Danny and Paul (Rose) and their children Alexia, PJ and Noah. “Nina” was a fun and adventurous grandmother, always exploring and playing with her grandchildren, taking time to teach them cooking and baking. Silvana is survived by her sister Maria (Mario G.) Silvestrone and her children Julie (Jason) Young and Louis Silvestrone (Sandy) and families, and her brother-in-law Cesare (the late Maria). Predeceased by her parents, Domenico and Guiditta Palumbi, her brother Silvio (surviving spouse Barbara) Palumbi and their children Laura (Terry) Sheridan, Mark (Kerrie) Palumbi and Tanya Palumbi and families; and her siblings-in-law Giulio (Domenica), Rita (Dante) Chiccone, Vince (surviving spouse Gina), Guido (surviving spouse Albina) and Vittorio (surviving spouse Lea). She is survived and fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in Canada, the United States, Italy and France. When she arrived in Canada in 1953, Silvana attended St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Niagara Falls, but soon left to help provide for her family, not completing her High School diploma until later in on life. She worked at many jobs, her trade being hairdressing, but she was a risk taker and never shied away from new opportunities, working at Interlake Steel and as a server at the Pillar and Post, running a pretzel business and a chinchilla business with her partner Umberto. She and her husband, along with partners Novella and Ralph Carpino, opened and ran The Country Crock restaurant in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Finally, retiring from working in the gift shop and greeting bus tours at the Casino. She was a happy, bubbly person who was an avid reader, gardener, and businesswoman whose proudest accomplishment was her 61-year marriage and all of her family. Friends will be received at BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME 2 Regent Street, Thorold on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Vigil Prayers will be recited at 3:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church 21 Queen Street South, Thorold. Silvana will be laid to rest at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens at a later date.
