1942-2024

Jack, beloved husband of Caroline (nee Douglas) passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 82 in Fonthill, Ontario.

Born in San Lorenzo, Italy, he was the eldest son of Leo and Irma Toffolo.  He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Chemical Engineering and spent his professional life as a chemical engineer with B.F. Goodrich Chemical (now Oxyvinyl) in Niagara Falls.

Jack loved his family dearly.  He was a devoted husband to Caroline, father to Christine (Dean), Phillip and Andrew (Jamie), grandfather to Olivia, Anthony and Colton and brother to Mario (Linda) and Denny (Nancy).  He will be fondly remembered by Caroline’s brother Bill Douglas and sister Elizabeth Fraser Smart and his nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jack was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother Denny.

As an avid reader, Jack’s sources not only included the daily newspaper but a variety of books whose topics ranged through history, politics, philosophy, music and science.  He was a dedicated community member, serving as Convener for Pelham Youth Soccer and Pelham Minor Hockey.  In addition, he was an active member of an original committee that was formed to pursue the goal to improve the quality of youth sports facilities in Pelham.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the staff at Woodlands of Sunset Nursing Home for the outstanding care and compassion Jack received throughout the seven years he was there.

A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Rockway Vineyards Golf Course, 3290 Ninth Street, St. Catharines, ON. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 pm.  Meeting with the family and refreshments will be from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to Pelham Youth Sports through “Pelham Cares”.
