Schools are closed in at least two regions and school buses are cancelled in others today as Environment Canada predicts heavy rainfall and freezing rain across southern Ontario.
Both the York District and the Waterloo Region District school boards say parents should not send their children to school today in light of the weather.
Meanwhile, the Peel District School Board says buses are cancelled in one area of Caledon, but schools remain open to students and staff.
It says there will not be a switch to remote learning for students enrolled in in-person classes.
Buses are also cancelled in parts of the Halton District School Board, but schools are open. The board says it may be necessary to combine classes.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board says buses in one zone and those to St. Andrew, St. Peter, St. Benedict and Robert F. Hall are cancelled. Schools are open, however.
Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for much of southern Ontario due to rain, with some regions — including Hamilton, London-Middlesex and Halton-Peel — under weather warnings for freezing rain.
