During the month of April 2024, Detectives from the 1 District Street Crime Unit (St.Catharines/Thorold) of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) investigated drugs being sold out of a residence and suspect vehicle throughout the City of St. Catharines.
As a result of the investigation, on April 30, 2024 at 3:22 p.m., Detectives from the 1 District Street Crime Unit (NRPS) subsequently conducted a traffic stop in the area of Scott Street and Vine Street resulting in the arrest of the suspect.
Within the contents of the vehicle being operated by the suspect, various drugs, drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency were seized with a total estimated street value of $15,000. Quantities seized by police are as follows:
- 24.8 grams of fentanyl
- 61.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine
- 38.7 grams of cocaine
- 14 Hydromorphone pills
- 100 Oxycodone pills
- $2,235 Canadian currency
Craig Burton (49 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences of:
- possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. (fentanyl)
- possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. (hydromorphone)
- possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. (cocaine)
- possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. (oxycodone)
- possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. (crystal methamphetamine)
- fail to comply with release order
- possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
Burton was held in custody pending a bail hearing was held in custody for a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on May 1, 2024.
