Arrest made following string of break and enters in St. Catharines

The 34-year-old faces multiple charges

Detectives from the 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) Street Crime Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) began investigating a series of break and enter incidents that occurred in mid-July.

The incidents occurred on July 12 and 13, 2024 at five properties (4 commercial, 1 residential) in St. Catharines and Niagara on the Lake.  During one incident a grey 2013 Buick was stolen.

As a result of the investigation a suspect was identified, and an arrest warrant was requested.  It was determined at that time the suspect was wanted for similar property crimes in the Hamilton and Halton area.  The suspect was arrested by the Hamilton Police Service and on July 23, 2024, turned over to the NRPS on the strength of the arrest warrant.

Spencer James Dwyer (34 yrs.) of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Break and Enter (5 Counts)
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

Dwyer was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on July 23, 2024.
