Members of the Niagara Regional Police have continued to investigate the shooting incident that occurred in downtown St. Catharines on Sept. 29 2019 which resulted in six persons being wounded.
Following a lengthy investigation, detectives have identified and arrested one of the male suspects believed to be involved in the shooting incident.
In the early hours of Feb. 26 2020, with the assistance of the York Regional Police Emergency Response Unit, an entry warrant was executed at a residence in Richmond Hill, Ont.
As a result, two male suspects were taken into custody.
Thirty-three-year-old Saeed Savalanpour is charged with the following alleged offences:
• Aggravated assault – contrary to section 268(1) of the Criminal Code (five counts)
• discharging firearm with Intent to endanger life – contrary to section 244(1) of the Criminal Code (five counts)
• Reckless discharge – contrary to section 244.2 (1b) of the Criminal Code
• Pointing firearm – contrary to section 87(1) of the Criminal Code
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm – contrary to section 91(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
• Using firearm in commission of offence – contrary to section 85(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Possession contrary to prohibition order contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code (two counts)
During the warrant execution, a male was located in the premise, arrested and charged with a number of Criminal Code offences unrelated to the St. Catharines shooting incident.
Thirty-four-year-old Shane Jermaine Tyrell was also arrested and is facing the following alleged charges:
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm – contrary to section 91(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with – Contrary to section 108(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
• Disobey court order – contrary Section 127 of the Criminal Code
Savalanpour and Tyrell are currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday Feb. 26, 2020 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
