DNA evidence identifies suspect in Niagara Falls break-and-enter

St. Catharines man arrested in connection with theft of luxury watches, rings and $35,000 in cash

On Dec. 24, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) uniform officers assigned to 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) responded to a residential address in Niagara Falls for a break-and-enter call for service.

Initial investigation determined that an unknown suspect gained access to the residence by breaking a window. A Scene’s of Crime Officer (SOCO) with the NRPS also attended to process the scene for any evidence. Officers determined that the following items were stolen:

  • $35,000 of Canadian currency
  • Rolex two tone men’s watch worth (Value $21,000)
  • Rolex submariner watch (Value: $20,000)
  • Tissot women’s watch ($1,000)
  • Three rings (Value: $4,000 each)
  • Tag Carrera watch (Value: $5,000)

A DNA profile was extracted from the scene and a male suspect was identified. On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, members arrested Philip Williams, 47, of St. Catharines, and charged him with the following Criminal Code offence:

  • Break, enter and commit theft over $5,000 in a dwelling house

Williams has been held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 13, 2025, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines. 

The stolen items remain outstanding, and detectives are appealing to members of the community to assist in locating them.
