Niagara Regional Police say a dog had to be put down after it attacked three people, including a police officer, in Niagara Falls.

Officers were called to the area of Margaret Street and Argyll Crescent at around 8:20 a.m. Monday.

They say a dog was “actively attacking” people inside a home.

“Officers arrived on scene and one officer was immediately attacked and was bitten on the hand,” said Niagara Police in a news release.

“The officer fought the dog off, however before he was able to get away, the dog lunged at him, biting him again. As a result, officers euthanized the animal.”

The officer along with two residents of the home were taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police, along with the Humane Society, continue to investigate the incident.
