Fatal structure fire under investigation in Niagara Falls

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers responded to a [fatal] structure fire in the area of Carl Road and McKenney Road in the City of Niagara Falls.

Investigators remained at the scene for much of the day as fire personnel worked to contain the fire. 

2 District Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) are working with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and the office of the Coroner as they are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire and the cause of death.

The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed.

The scene is expected to be held for several days as the investigation continues.

The investigation has been hampered by the structural safety at site following the fire.
