Through continued work by detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Homicide Unit, the remaining male suspect has been arrested.
On Thursday, 47-year-old Richard Stevens was arrested and charged with the following offence:
- First-degree murder
Stevens is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

UPDATE 4 – Detectives Investigating Port Colborne Death – Jan. 4
Through continued work by detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Homicide Unit, one of the two male suspects has been arrested.
On Jan. 4, 47-year-old Jacob Cudney was arrested and charged with the following offence:
- First-degree murder
Cudney is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Jan. 4, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
Detectives continue to search for 47-year-old Richard Stevens, who is also wanted in connection with the murder of Daniel Sanvido.
Stevens is encouraged to contact legal counsel and make arrangements to surrender himself into police custody.
Stevens is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If anyone has information on his whereabouts, they should call 911immediately.

UPDATE 3 – Detectives Investigating Port Colborne Death - Jan. 3
Detectives have identified two additional male suspects who are also wanted in relation to the murder of Daniel Sanvido.
47-year-old Jacob Cudney of Niagara Falls and 47-year-old Richard Stevens of Niagara Falls are both wanted for the following charge:
- First-degree murder

UPDATE 2 – Detectives Investigating Port Colborne Death - Jan. 3
As a result of continued investigation, Niagara Regional Police Service homicide detectives have been able to identify a suspect in the August 2024 homicide of Daniel Sanvido.
On Thursday Jan. 2, detectives arrested 36-year-old Jade Hayward of St. Catharines, who is facing the following charge:
- First-degree murder
Hayward is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday January 3, 2025, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

UPDATE 1 - Detectives investigating Port Colborne Death – Aug. 26
Homicide detectives continue to investigate the death of an adult male located in a rural area of the City of Port Colborne.
Detectives have now been able to identify the man as 38-year-old Daniel Sanvido who was the victim of a homicide.
Investigators are asking anyone with information, or who may have had contact with Daniel within the last week leading up to his death to contact Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs at (905) 688-4111, option 3, extension 1009103.

ORIGINAL RELEASE - Aug. 25
At 3:35pm on Saturday Aug. 24, 2024, 6 District (Port Colborne) uniform officers were called to the area of Forkes Road and Highway 140 in the City of Port Colborne following the report of a deceased male in a grassy area off the roadway.
The investigation is in the preliminary stages; there is currently a heavy police presence in the area with Homicide detectives, along with the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) investigating.
Detectives do not have information to suggest an on-going threat to the community, however, they are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling Lead Investigator Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs (905) 688-4111, option 3, extension 1009103.
