First-degree murder charge in Port Colborne death of Daniel Sanvido

As a result of continued investigation, Niagara Regional Police Service homicide detectives have been able to identify a suspect in the August 2024 homicide of Daniel Sanvido.

On Thursday Jan. 2 detectives arrested 36-year-old Jade Hayward of St. Catharines, who is facing the following charge:

  • First-degree murder

Hayward is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing today, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

UPDATE 1 - Detectives investigating Port Colborne Death – Aug. 26

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the death of an adult male located in a rural area of the City of Port Colborne.

Detectives have now been able to identify the man as 38-year-old Daniel Sanvido who was the victim of a homicide.

Investigators are asking anyone with information, or who may have had contact with Daniel within the last week leading up to his death to contact Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs at (905) 688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009103

ORIGINAL RELEASE - Aug. 25

At 3:35 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 24, 6 District (Port Colborne) uniform officers were called to the area of Forkes Road and Highway 140 in the City of Port Colborne following the report of a deceased male in a grassy area off the roadway.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages; there is currently a heavy police presence in the area with Homicide detectives, along with the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) investigating.

Detectives do not have information to suggest an on-going threat to the community, however, they are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling Lead Investigator Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs (905) 688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009103.
