Man arrested and charged for December coin collection theft

In Dec. 2024, detectives with 1 District street crime (St. Catharines/Thorold) with the Niagara Regional Police Service began an investigation into a break and enter that occurred in the area of Centre Street and Court Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Investigation revealed a male suspect had broken into an apartment at this location, stole a coin collection worth over $10,000 and left the residence.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify the male suspect.

On Feb. 20, the suspect was arrested.

Mark Steeves, 56-year-old of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  •  break, entering and committing (theft)

Steeves was released on an form 10 - undertaking with a future court date.
