Man injured, dog killed during Niagara Falls assault

One man has been arrested and a second man is wanted following a disturbance at a downtown Niagara Falls hotel.

On Feb. 24, 2020 at approximately 9 p.m., uniform officers from the 2 District – Niagara Falls office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a motel in the area of Queen Street and Zimmerman Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene to find a male suffering from what was believed to be life-threatening injuries and a critically injured dog.

The investigation by uniform officers and detectives determined that a 38-year-old Niagara Falls man attempted to force his way into a room causing a disturbance. 

It is alleged that three persons in the hotel room were then assaulted and the dog was injured. A 40-year-old Niagara Falls man is alleged to have then armed himself with weapons and assaulted the 38-year-old man. The 40-year-old man ran from the scene prior to the arrival of the police.

Dariusz Lukasz Rebisz (38 years old) of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

  • Forcible entry - Sec. 72(1)
  • Assault with a weapon - Sec. 267(a)
  • Assault - Sec. 266 (3 Counts)
  • Killing / injuring animal - Sec. 445(1)(a)
  • Fail to comply with probation - sec. 733.1(1)

Randy Gerald Lanteigne (40 years old) of Niagara Falls is wanted for the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offence of:

  •  Assault with a weapon - Sec. 267(a)

The current location of Randy Gerald Lanteigne is unknown. Anyone knowing his location is asked to contact the NRPS.

The injured 38-year-old man from Niagara Falls was treated at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and transported to a local hospital.  He was subsequently flown by Ornge Air Ambulance to an out of region trauma hospital. He remains in hospital in stable condition. 

Dariusz Lukasz Rebisz will attend a bail hearing in relation to the charges in this matter. The date of that hearing has not been determined due to his ongoing medical care.

The dog was taken to a local veterinarian for care of its injuries. The dog has since died.
