The Regional Municipality of Niagara Police Service Board and Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) are proud to announce the establishment of the Niagara Regional Police Foundation, a new initiative designed to raise funds that will support programs focused on crime prevention and enhancing community safety in the Niagara Region.

The Foundation will prioritize vulnerable and at-risk communities, striving to create a positive impact on public safety and wellbeing throughout the Region.  The Foundation will be dedicated to the transparent stewardship of funds, ensuring all donations and sponsorships are directed toward achieving its goals and advancing the principles of crime prevention and community safety.

“The launch of the Niagara Regional Police Foundation demonstrates our commitment to community safety across the Niagara Region,” said Board Chair Pat Chiocchio.  “The Foundation focuses on supporting crime prevention and community programs that enhance public safety and provides citizens, community organizations, and corporations with the opportunity to contribute through donations or sponsorships, advancing the Foundation’s mission and objectives.”

Chief of Police Bill Fordy said, “The establishment of the Niagara Regional Police Foundation represents a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering safer and stronger communities across the Niagara Region. By focusing on crime prevention and supporting vulnerable and at-risk populations, the Foundation will enable us to make a meaningful and lasting impact on public safety and wellbeing.”

As part of its organizational structure, the Foundation’s Board of Directors will consist of seven members, including no more than one representative from the Police Service Board and one from the Niagara Regional Police Service. The Chief of Police will serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member. Directors will serve on a volunteer, part-time basis for terms of two to three years, with the possibility of reappointment.

To ensure effective governance, the Board will seek individuals with a variety of skills and experiences, including:

  • fundraising and philanthropy experience;
  • an interest in, and commitment to, public safety;
  • an understanding of the diverse communities and their needs;
  • leadership and management skills;
  • administrative and budgetary experience;
  • strong communication skills;
  • an ability to set organizational goals and priorities;
  • a flexible schedule to meet time commitments of the position;
  • ability to commit to monthly meetings in the first year.

The Niagara Police Service Board has developed the selection process for the inaugural Board of Directors, with future appointments to be managed by the Foundation’s own Board. Individuals interested in applying for a position on the inaugural Board are invited to submit an application along with a current resume.
