On Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, 2 District – Niagara Falls officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a home in the city of Niagara Falls for a report of a sexual assault.
Officers attended and the investigation was taken over by detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit. The investigation determined that a male suspect was alleged to have sexually assaulted two 16-year-old females. The assaults are believed to have occurred in a residence in the city of Niagara Falls in May of 2020.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, on Aug. 18, 2020, detectives attended a Butternut Boulevard residence in Niagara Falls. Detectives arrested a female and executed a search warrant at the residence.
A 33-year-old woman from Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with the alleged offences of:
- Obstruct justice (two counts)
The name of the arrested female is not being released as it may identify the victims.
She was held in custody for a video bail hearing on Aug. 20, 2020, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse n St. Catharines.
Detectives are seeking an arrest warrant for Daniel John Vermont (33 years old) of Niagara Falls in relation to his role in this investigation. Vermont is wanted for the alleged offences of:
- Overcoming resistance to commission of offence – sec 246(a) Criminal Code of Canada (2 Counts)
- Sexual assault (two counts) – 271 Criminal Code of Canada
Vermont is described as:
- Black male
- 6'3 feet tall
- Medium build at 225 lbs
- Brown hair
- Green eyes
Vermont's current location is unknown. Detectives believe Vermont is aware he is wanted and is attempting to elude arrest.
Vermont may be operating a red 2014 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, Ontario licence # CHZN402 (see similar photo).
