No threat ever existed at Thorold school: NRPS

The investigation into this incident has been ongoing by 1 District officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service since it occurred.

The investigation has determined using closed-circuit cameras that no threat ever existed in the school as it was reported.

The matter is being closed as unfounded.

Original release:

On July 25, 2024, at 1:31pm 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded for a report of a possible armed person in a school in Thorold.

Officers attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on Collier Road South after day camp / day care staff reported a child stating they saw a man with a knife in the building.   Uniform officers were assisted by the NRPS Canine Unit, and the Emergency Task Unit.  Staff onsite took safety measures and secured themselves and the children in a safe place.

Officers cleared the building and found nothing suspicious.  The safety measures were lifted by officers and staff onsite at approximately 2:45pm with a return to a normal status.

The investigation remains ongoing to determine the validity of the initial report.
