Police investigate sexual assault near Dock Road in Thorold

On Tuesday Sept. 7, 2021, at approximately 7:48PM, 1 District – St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a sexual assault that had just occurred.

Officers attended the area of Ormond Street South and Lyndon Street East in Thorold to meet the victim. The initial investigation by uniform officers determined that five kids had been swimming in the area and were walking on a trail in the area of Ormond Street South and Dock Road in Thorold. 

An unknown male suspect approached the group and sexually assaulted one of them. The suspect then left the area on foot.

Officers including an NRPS K9 Unit flooded the area but were not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

  • White male, 40–50-years-old
  • Medium build with a ”belly”
  • Grey / black “scruffy” facial hair

The suspect’s clothing is described as:

  • Ball cap
  • Grey or black shirt
  • Baggy jeans

The 12-year-old victim was not physically injured.

The investigation has been assigned to detectives from the NRPS Child Abuse Unit. 

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 6:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2021.
