At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers were called to the area of Rykert Street and Edith Street in the City of St. Catharines following the report of a male armed with a knife.
When officers arrived on scene, an altercation ensued during which the male was shot. The 56-year-old male has been transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The SIU has been contacted and has invoked their investigative mandate.
As the SIU is involved we are prohibited from providing further information at this time.
