Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stolen motor vehicle and the subsequent fatal collision.
On Friday, March 21, Mathew Morris (38 years) of St. Catharines turned himself in to police. Morris is facing the following criminal charges:
- Robbery
- Fail to stop at the scene of a fatality
Morris is being held in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Saturday, March 22, 2025, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
The investigation remains active and on-going as detectives with 1 District CIB continue to work collaboratively with detectives in the Collision Reconstruction Unit. Efforts are focused on gathering additional evidence, and further charges related to the fatality are expected in the near future.
