Police say they have arrested a Toronto man on human trafficking charges in the Niagara Region and Toronto.

Niagara Regional Police say they commenced an investigation last month into the trafficking of a female over the age of 18 throughout Niagara Region and Southern Ontario.

Earlier today, with the assistance of 2 District Uniform Officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service and members of the GTA-East Provincial ROPE (Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement), a suspect identified earlier was located and arrested in Toronto.

Dillan Shand, 32, of Toronto is facing the following charges:

  • Trafficking in Persons
  • Procuring
  • Material Benefit from Trafficking in Persons
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services
  • Assault
  • Uttering Threats

Shand is being held in custody pending a bail hearing, which is expected to take place June 6 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives suspect there may be more victims. Anyone who may have more information is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009544.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Shand is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
