UPDATE: Third arrest in connection to human trafficking probe

As a result of the continued investigation, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, a third suspect has been arrested. 

Joginder Bajwa, 73, of King, Ontario was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Bajwa was held in custody pending a video bail hearing, which is expected to take place on June 6 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

In December 2023, the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Human Trafficking Unit commenced an investigation into the trafficking of a person over the age of 18 years.

As a result of the investigation, three male suspects were identified to be involved in the investigation.

On Thursday , May 30th, 2024, Wasim Ahmed, 47, of Maple, and Mohammad Arshad Ghummian, 61, of Mississauga, were arrested by human trafficking detectives.

Both Ahmed and Ghummian are facing the following criminal charges: 

  • Trafficking in persons by recruiting
  • Procuring
  • Sexual assault
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats

Both Ahmed and Ghummian are being held in custody pending a video bail hearing, which is expected to take place on May 30th, 2024, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines. 

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives suspect there may be more victims. Anyone who may have more information is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009548.
