Waterloo man charged with kidnapping after Monday night Amber Alert

An Amber Alert was issued after a 14-year-old was taken from a residence in Kitchener. The teen was later found in Simcoe County

WATERLOO REGION, ONT. – Waterloo Regional Police have charged a Waterloo male after an abduction in Kitchener.

On Aug. 5, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., police responded to a residence in the area of Strasburg Road and Rush Meadow Street for a report of a break-and-enter and a missing 14-year-old female.

An Amber Alert was issued, and the 14-year-old was subsequently located in Simcoe County by the Ontario Provincial Police.

WRPS’ Major Crime Unit has charged a 36-year-old Waterloo male with the following offences:

  • Kidnapping while using firearm
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence

The victim and the accused are known to one another.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are anticipated.

The accused remains in custody, pending a bail hearing.

WATERLOO REGION, ONT. – Waterloo Regional Police have located a missing female after issuing an AMBER Alert.

On Aug. 5, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., police responded to a residence in the area of Strasburg Road and Rush Meadow Street in Kitchener for reports of a break-and-enter and a missing person.

As a result, WRPS issued an Amber Alert in efforts to locate the missing 14-year-old.

At 8 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police safely located the female out-of-region.

A male has been placed under arrest and charges are anticipated.

The investigation remains ongoing.
