Almost 100 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Niagara today in largest increase since this spring

Almost 100 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Niagara on Wednesday, marking the highest daily increase since early this spring.

Countered by only 20 recoveries, the 97 new infections placed the region’s active case count at 513.

There was no immedeate information on where the bulk of the cases had been confirmed. 

In the past week, numbers in the 40-50 range have been reported, outweighing the latest downward trend seen over the past few months in Niagara.

There were no new deaths reported with the increase.

17 patients are hospitalized with the virus, of which 5 are in the ICU.

12 are unvaccinated and 5 fully vaccinated.

444 residents have died since the start of the pandemic.
