Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation kicked-off their Snowflakes and Angels Christmas Campaign last week with an intimate tree lighting ceremony.

Katelynn Wild, a former patient, was joined by her family, friends and care team as she “flipped the switch” that illuminated the tree on the grounds of Hotel Dieu Shaver.

“Hotel Dieu Shaver helped my heart to heal. Learning how to walk the second time is harder than the first. HDS gave me my life back after suffering a hemiplegic stroke. They were invested in me and now, not only did they teach me to walk again, but I can do things like swim with dolphins, kayak and walk my dog,” said Katelynn.

Donations received from the Snowflakes & Angels Christmas Campaign fund the purchase of priority patient care equipment that is not funded by the government. Funds raised for the 2024 Snowflakes and Angels Campaign will be allocated to the modern Hospital Information System being implemented at Hotel Dieu Shaver (HDS).

This new system streamlines health care communication across the Niagara region and eliminates the need for patients to re-tell their stories. From pen and paper to mouse and keyboard, the new digital medical records help redefine patient care at HDS.

Community members are invited to make a donation to the Snowflakes and Angels Christmas Campaign in honour or celebration of someone they cherish. Donations can be made by visiting www.SnowflakesandAngels.ca or calling 905-378-HDSF (4373).
