Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner, West Region, Hamilton Office, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Jordan Case. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025. Dr. Richard McLean will be the presiding officer and Phillip Tsui will be the inquest counsel.

Mr. Case, 22, died on Dec. 1, 2018, while in custody at the Niagara Detention Centre. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Case’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last seven days and hear from approximately 11 witnesses.
