There’s a cool breeze in the air and the leaves are changing colour, which can only mean one thing: fall is here!

To celebrate the cosy season, the Port Robinson Community Centre is putting on a free fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 19.

“It’s just a couple of hours of fun for the family,” explains Marty Wilson, the chair of the Port Robinson Community Centre's board. “We have a couple stock cars coming, the old firetruck, so the kids can explore those. We have some activities for the kids, some games. We have corn hole for the adults. We have live music, the Dave Tufford Band, and we have a barbecue.”

The community centre is also inviting local community groups to come and share info on the work they do.

“Maybe they can get some volunteers interested in their organization,” Wilson says. “We’re adding that this year to try and bring more people out.”

This is the third year that the community centre is putting on the fall festival.

“We really like the vibe of this event but we haven’t been that successful with getting the people out,” says Wilson. “So truthfully, this is our last kick at the can. If we can’t make this work then we’re going to give it up because it’s a lot of work for us.”

The community centre recently held a fundraiser for upgrades to the centre.

“We just purchased some new tables and we’re looking at purchasing new chairs,” Wilson says. “We’re kind of shopping around for that. They’re a high price ticket item so when you need 90 of them…we’re focusing on that.”

While there will be a donation jar at the fall festival, the event is completely free.

“We’ll just cook until we run out of food because we don’t know how many people are coming,” says Wilson. “We’ll cook what we have and hopefully we’ll have enough.”

The Fall Festival is taking place at the Port Robinson Community Centre on Saturday, October 19, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
