Jackfish come from behind to beat Royals, even playoff series

GUELPH – Welland scored three runs in the 10th inning and held on for a 4-3 win Saturday in Guelph to even the best-of-five semifinal at a game apiece.

Jake Sanford went 2-for-5 with three RBI in the win. Two of his RBI came in the 10th to break a 1-1 tie.

Steven Moretto drove in the other run for Welland. Jonah Weisner had two hits.

Reliever Deivy Mendez (1-1) earned the win after giving up two runs on four hits over 3.2 innings. He walked one and struck out nine. Teodoro Ortega started for the Jackfish and went six innings, allowing one run on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Josh Garton hit a two-run home run for Guelph in the bottom of the 10th. Frankin Torres went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Ethan Hammond had a pair of hits and scored.

Yuki Narita (0-2) took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out four. Royals starting pitcher Jacob Kush gave up a run on three hits over seven innings. He walked three and fanned five.
