WORLD ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP

ST. CATHARINES – Over the last eight days, St. Catharines welcomed the world for an incredible display of rowing at the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships, otherwise known as the Mega Worlds. This event brought together over 1,183 athletes from more than 60 countries to compete in 46 events at the historic Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course, making it a true celebration of international rowing excellence.
The week was marked by unforgettable moments, from record-breaking World Best and World Championship Best Times, and thrilling photo finishes to the remarkable resilience shown by athletes and organizers in overcoming weather challenges, including a cancelled day due to high winds.
As a city with a rich rowing history, St. Catharines proudly hosted the World Rowing Championships for the third time, following successful events in 1970 and 1999. The 2024 Mega Worlds not only continued this tradition but also showcased the city’s renowned hospitality, drawing thousands of participants and spectators from across the globe. Together, we celebrated the best in rowing, creating an unforgettable experience and leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

St. Catharines has a long history of hosting rowing events, and these will be remembered as another great one. This event not only brought economic benefits to our city but also brought together communities from around the world, showcasing our city's passion for sport and culture," said Mat Siscoe, Mayor of St. Catharines.
"St. Catharines is accustomed to hosting world-class regattas and this week was no exception,” said Chris Bittle, Member of Parliament in St. Catharines. “The organizers and volunteers showed our community's proud rowing tradition, and delivered a successful world championship. Thank you to everyone involved."
Throughout the eight days of competition, fans from around the globe were able to witness the action through over 50 hours of live broadcast coverage, available on demand on World Rowing’s YouTube Channel.
