On Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025 at approximately 1:40 a.m., 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the area of Victoria Avenue and Ryerson Crescent in the City of Niagara Falls for a robbery.
Investigation revealed a male suspect entered the Busy Bee at this location, attempted to steal items from the store then brandished a gun as he fled from the store on foot.
Officers arrived on scene quickly and were able to obtain a description of the male. A perimeter was established and as a result officers were able to locate the male suspect, where a high risk arrest was conducted.
Yovany Eduardo Vera Lorenzo (50 years old) of Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Use of imitation firearm during flight after commission of an offence
- Robbery
- Uttering Threats
VERA was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on Feb. 4, 2025 at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church S.t in the City of St. Catharines.
