Arrest made in St. Catharines assault investigation

On Aug. 10, 2024, 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service began investigating an assault that occurred in the City of St. Catharines. As a result of the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Raymond Douglas Warner (34 years) of no fixed address.

On Aug. 20, 2024, detectives appealed to the public for information that may lead to the location and arrest of Warner. Within hours of the public appeal, detectives were able to locate and arrest Warner in the City of St. Catharines.

Raymond Douglas Warner has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of:
    •    Aggravated assault

Warner is being held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Aug. 21, 2024.

Detectives would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter. This remains an ongoing investigation as detectives are interested in identifying and speaking with the three additional males that were with Warner at the time of this assault. Any other person who may have information about this incident or may have witnessed it are asked to contact detectives. Detectives can be contacted by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009711.

Anyone who may have been in the area with cell phones, closed circuit video recording, or dash camera footage between 3:45 and 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, is asked to review their footage of the area and contact police if they observe anything suspicious.

Members of the public who wish to provide information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or by calling 1-800-222-8477. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards to persons who contact the program with information which leads to an arrest.
