Investigation leads to drug-related arrests

Three people face charges as a result of an investigation while another person was arrested on an outstanding warrant

Since 2018 members of the Guns, Gangs and Grows Unit, Opioid Unit and the St. Catharines Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service conducted a joint investigation in to the sales of crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl from apartments within the apartment building located at 8 Queenston Street in the City of St. Catharines.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2019, police executed two search warrants on apartments in this building believed to be involved in this drug trafficking operation.

As a result, police located six persons inside with three facing criminal charges as a result of the investigation. One of these persons was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest. 

Police seized crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $16,800 and $1,200 in currency believed to be proceeds of these drug sales.

Arrested and charged are 52-year-old St. Catharines resident John Shred for possession for the purpose of trafficking crystal methamphetamine and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime; 44-year-old Brantford resident Troy Berton for possession of a schedule I substance; and 43-year-old St. Catharines resident Carrie-Lynn Litke for possession of a schedule I substance.

Police located 25-year-old St. Catharines resident Michelle Vanhelvert who had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. 

Shred and Vanhelvert were held pending bail hearing on Friday, Jan. 18, 2018.
