On March 28, 2022, at approximately 3:27 p.m., Niagara Regional Police Service 5 District - Fort Ere uniform officers we were called to a report of a serious collision in the area of Bowen Road and Pettit Road in Fort Erie.
The initial report was that a passenger car and a transport truck collided. The passenger vehicle, a grey 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, had two people in it. It was forced from the roadway into a ditch as a result of the impact.
The two adult occupants of the Chevrolet were both extracted from the car by Fort Erie Fire Services while being treated by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics.
Injuries to the driver, a 78-year-old woman from Fort Erie, were believed to be critical, life-threatening. The 81-year-old male passenger from Fort Erie suffered serious injuries. The driver and passenger were both initially treated at a local hospital and then transported out of the region for further treatment.
The 53-year-old male driver (from Kitchener) of the involved green 2019 Freightliner transport truck was not physically injured.
The QEW on and off ramps at Bowen Road were closed temporarily to reduce traffic congestion near the collision scene. The scene and ramps were cleared at approximately 12:15 a.m.
The Chevrolet was demolished as a result of the collision. The Freightliner damage is estimated at approximately $6,000. Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the collision with assistance from detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.
