On Sept. 24, 2020, at approximately 1:15 a.m. 1 District St. Catharines officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a commercial break and enter in the area of Welland Avenue and Cushman Road in St. Catharines.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered that a retail store in a nearby plaza had damage to the front entrance. At 1:30 a.m., officers located a suspect nearby as he ran from a stolen white Nissan cargo van.
A result of further investigation by detectives from the 1 District St. Catharines Street Crime Unit the suspect has been linked to other recent commercial and residential break and enters. The break and enters (eight in total) are believed to have occurred in St. Catharines and Thorold between Sept. 12 and 24, 2020.
Joseph Bruce Brady (30 years) of Fort Erie has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
- Break & Enter Non-Dwelling with intent, contrary to section 348(1)(a)
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to section 355(a)
- Break & Enter Dwelling With Intent, contrary to section 348(1)(a)
- (5 Counts) Break & Enter Non-Dwelling Commit, contrary to section 348(1)(b)
- Break & Enter Dwelling Commit, contrary to section 348(1)(b)
- Fail to Comply with Release Order, contrary to section 145(5)(a)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1)
Brady was held in custody and attended a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Sept. 24, 2020.
