Niagara Falls man faces firearms charges

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024 at approximately 8:05 a.m., 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the area of Stanley Avenue and North Street in the City of Niagara Falls.

Investigation revealed that a male suspect and an adult female were in a physical altercation which escalated to the male suspect pinning the female against the wall, throwing her phone, and pushing her to the ground.

Niagara Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and treated the victim who sustained minor physical injuries as a result.

Officers arrived and contained the area as it was believed the male had weapons in his room.

The male then exited the residence and was arrested without incident.

A search warrant was executed and as a result a scoped 308 hunting rifle was seized.

Desmond MacMorine (23 years old) of Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Firearm: Unauthorized Possession  
  • Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device

MacMorine was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on Oct. 23, 2024 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.
