Niagara-on-the-Lake driver invloved in single-vehicle crash near Sudbury: OPP

The 32-year-old faces multiple charges as a result

BURWASH TWP — On March 30, 2022 at 12:52 a.m., members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Nepewassi Lake Road, Burwash Township, in the District of Sudbury.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the local hospital by Sudbury Paramedic Services for non-life-threating injuries.

Further testing on the driver was conducted at the hospital with the assistance of the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The driver was later discharged from the hospital. 

As a result of the investigation, Calvin Pilon, 32-years-of-age, from Niagara-on-the-Lake, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC
  • Driver - fail to properly wear seat belt, contrary to section 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 11, 2022, in Sudbury.

The accused was issued both a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
