Pedestrian dies after being struck by pickup truck

At 6:17 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2024, emergency services personnel responded to a report of a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian on Lake Street in St. Catharines.

1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) arrived on scene to find an adult male pedestrian in critical condition. A collision had occurred involving the pedestrian and a white Ford F150 pickup truck.

Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and St. Catharines Fire Services personnel provided treatment to the injured male, and he was transported to a local hospital. The male tragically died at the hospital due to his injuries.

The investigation is in its initial stages. Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been called to the scene to determine the circumstances and cause of the collision. They are being assisted by the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

Lake Street in St. Catharines between Carlton Street and Dunlop Drive has been closed for the investigation. The closure will be in place likely for most of the morning. The public is asked to find alternative routes.
