NEWS RELEASE
NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE
*************************
The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is currently investigating a series of thefts of trailers and snowmobiles calls for service. These calls occur overnight in typically rural areas across the Niagara Region. These incidents have been reported in the municipalities of Grimsby, West Lincoln, and Lincoln and have been taking place primarily between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., since March 2025.
The suspects involved in these incidents appear to be targeting neighbourhoods and checking if unattended trailers with unlocked trailer hitches parked in driveways have been left accessible. If a trailer hitch is found unlocked, the thieves are hooking up the trailer and driving away.
In light of these incidents, the Niagara Regional Police Service is urging members of the public to remain vigilant. NRPS recommends the following actions to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft:
- Hitch Locks – use a hardened steel hitch lock to prevent the trailer from being towed away.
- Store indoors – Keep in a locked area.
- Park Smart – Park in well lit areas with security cameras.
If you discover that you have been a victim of this crime, the NRPS urges you to file a report to assist in the investigation. This will help investigators gather information and work towards identifying the suspects involved.
The Niagara Regional Police Service is committed to protecting the safety and security of the community. We appreciate the public's assistance in staying alert and informed as we continue to investigate these incidents.
