Police seize drugs, cash, handgun at Niagara Falls hotel

Two people face multiple charges, including possession of a restricted firearm and possession of cocaine and heroin for the purpose of trafficking

On Sunday July 24, 2022, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers were called to a hotel in the area of Dunn Street and Stanley Avenue in the city of Niagara Falls following the report of a break and enter.

When officers arrived, they located a male and female in one of the rooms who were not guests of the hotel. When officers arrived, information of a firearm in the room led to the evacuation of neighbouring rooms while detectives investigated.

Shortly after, the male and female were taken into custody.

30-year-old Tarik Elbardi is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition contrary to section 95(1)(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a prohibited device contrary to section 92(2)(1) of the Criminal Code (2 counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code (2 counts)
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order contrary to section 117.01(1)(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon contrary to section 91(2)(2) of the Criminal Code
  • Careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1)(3) of the Criminal Code
  • Possess proceeds obtained by crime under $5000 contrary to section 355(b)(8) of the Criminal Code
  • Possess identity documents contrary to section 56.1(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail to comply with release order contrary to section: 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Possess Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) contrary to section 5(2)(9) of the CDSA
  • Possess Schedule I substance for the purpose of frafficking (heroin) contrary to section 5(2)(8) of the CDSA

40-year-old Mary Minov is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition contrary to section 95(1)(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a prohibited device contrary to 92(2)(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code (2 counts)
  • Careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1)(3) of the Criminal Code
  • Possess proceeds obtained by crime Under $5000 contrary to section 355(b)(8) of the Criminal Code
  • Possess identity documents contrary to section 56.1(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possess Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) contrary to section 5(2)(9) of the CDSA
  • Possess Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (heroin) contrary to section 5(2)(8) of the CDSA

Both Elbardi and Minov were held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday July 25, 2022 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
