In October of 2024, detectives with the 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service began an investigation into the illegal sale of drugs in the City of St. Catharines.
As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify two suspects responsible.
On Nov. 7, 2024, detectives executed a warrant on a residence and a vehicle in the area of Manchester Avenue and Whitmore Street in the City of St. Catharines and both suspects were arrested.
The following was seized as a result:
- $14,349 in Canadian currency
- $330 in American currency
- 30.9 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 182.6 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- two Rolex watches (value of $100,000 each)
Shyhiem M. Grant (23 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a schedule I substance FTP (fentanyl)
- Possession of a schedule I substance FTP (crystal methamphetamine)
- Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
Grant was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on November 8, 2024 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.
Samra Yemen (22 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a schedule I substance FTP (fentanyl)
- Possession of a schedule I substance FTP (crystal methamphatamine)
- Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
Yemen was released on a FORM 10-Undertaking with a future court date.
