Investigators from Peel Regional Police Vice Unit and Halton Regional Police Human Trafficking Unit, with the assistance of Niagara Regional Police Service, arrested and charged a man trafficking two females across the province.
In October 2024, Peel Regional Police and Halton Police identified two females who were unknown to each other and alleged they had been sexually trafficked throughout the Golden Horseshoe area. The suspect exercised control over aspects of their lives while profiting financially from it.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was residing in the Niagara Region, and with the assistance of the Niagara Regional Police Service, he was located and arrested.
Both, Peel and Halton Police Human Trafficking Unit executed two search warrants at residences in the Town of Thorold.
During the search warrants, police located a loaded firearm, a large amount of ammunition, a drum magazine capable of holding 50 rounds of ammunition, and a quantity of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking.
The suspect’s car was seized by Asset Forfeiture as it was used in the commission of the human trafficking offences.
This investigation was a great example of the partnerships and collaboration maintained across the province to solve human trafficking cases.
Marcus Moses, a 37-years-old, who has community ties in the Region of Peel and resides in Thorold, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Procuring (x2)
- Trafficking in Persons (x2)
- Exercise Control, Direction or Influence (x2)
- Advertise Sexual Services (x2)
- Receive Material Benefit Resulting from Trafficking in Persons (x2)
- Derive Material Benefit from Sexual Services (x2)
- Communicate with Anyone for the Purpose of Obtaining Sexual Service
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Prohibited Device (x2)
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Careless Use of Firearm
- Possession Contrary to Order (x6)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (x2)
He was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
