St. Catharines drug bust results in crack cocaine seizure near public school

In the month of January 2019 members of the Guns, Gangs and Grows Unit and the Opioid Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service commenced an investigation in to the sales of crack cocaine from a Northwood Drive address in the City of St. Catharines.

This residence was located directly across the street from a public school and police surveillance showed the drug sales were active during school hours.

Police were granted a search warrant for this address and on Jan. 22, 2019 at approximately 4 p.m., members of the Emergency Tactical Unit arrested one of the involved persons after he left the residence. They then attended and executed the search warrant at the address on Northwood Drive and arrested two more persons inside the home.

A search of the home was conducted and Police seized crack cocaine and powdered cocaine as well as currency which was believed to be the proceeds of their drug sales.

Arrested and charged were 19-year-old Toronto resident Rubens Kanate, 57-year-old St. Catharines resident Simone Caroselli and a 16-year-old young offender. They were charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime.

In total, Police seized $2,700 in cocaine.

All three males were held pending a bail hearing set for Jan. 23, 2019.
